South African Sexpo moves to Johannesburg amid claims of European launch

AFRICA - The Johannesburg Expo Centre (JEC) has won the right to host the 2012 South African edition of erotic exhibition Sexpo.

The event, due to take place on 27-30 September, moves to Johannesburg from the Durban Exhibition Centre, where it was hosted last year, a move it has made alongside plans for a European Sexpo this year.

The Sexpo events are described as entertaining and educational ‘celebrations of sexuality in a fun, exciting and safe atmosphere’, featuring adult film stars, celebrities, artists, comedians, lingerie shows and for the first time in Johannesburg this year, a Fetish Ball.

“With the move to JEC we are now able to offer a fully encompassed show under one single roof,” Sexpo said in a statement.

"There is much excitement surrounding the arrival of Sexpo 2012,” said JEC's marketing and sales executive Karabo Moikangoe. “It opens the venue up to a whole new and emerging market and will help solidify JEC as a world-class venue.

“With the new location, Sexpo will also benefit by attracting additional consumers to their already loyal consumer base. The innovative and fresh ideas that the organisers are bringing to the table for this year's Sexpo is also refreshing - we have never been involved with a project with this particular tone and colour."

Sexpo is one of the exhibition organisers throwing its support behind Australia’s landmark ruling for exhibition auditing.
