Exhibition Place generated CAN$3m surplus for City of Toronto

AMERICAS - Toronto's Exhibition Place has reported a CAN$3,096,380 (US$3,025,902) surplus for 2011. Management attributed the figures to a successful Canadian National Exhibition and Conference Programme, as well as responsible operating expense management.

Home to the Direct Energy Centre, Allstream Centre, BMO Field and Canadian National Exhibition, Exhibition Place “plays an important role in Toronto and Canada’s economic fibre by providing the leading marketplace for meetings, conventions, tradeshows and sporting events in Canada,” according to the venue’s chair of the Board of Governors, Mark Grimes.

“We are proud to facilitate a profitable success and generate $3m for the City of Toronto,” said Grimes, who noted that Exhibition Place had contributed over $11.8m in operating surplus to the City of Toronto over the past five years.

“I would like to thank the Exhibition Place employees for their hard work, dedication and commitment,” said Dianne Young, CEO. “To achieve a positive result as we come out of a recessionary period is something to be commended.”

The 192-acre Exhibition Place is Canada’s largest entertainment venue, attracting over 5.3m visitors a year.
