ADNEC claims 64 events in first quarter of 2012

MIDDLE EAST – The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) hosted 64 exhibitions, conferences, meetings and weddings at the venue in the first quarter of the year, attracting more than 125,000 visitors.

The venue’s three largest events, the World Future Energy Summit, the World Ophthalmology Congress and the Tawdheef Gulf recruitment show, accounted for more 64,000 visitors.

ADNEC’s major first quarter milestones included staging the International Security National Resilience Exhibition and Conference in March, which focused on homeland security issues. The event, which also featured a fire fighting championship, attracted close to 9,000 visitors and included exhibitors from 26 countries.

Other key events include The Gulf Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition on 26-28 March and the 22nd edition of Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

ADNEC’s chief sales and marketing officer Humaid Al Dhaheri, said: “Last year was very successful for ADNEC as we hosted 231 events. This year appears to be equally promising taking into consideration the numbers reported during this first quarter.

“The different types of events taking place at ADNEC are in line with the Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision which aims to focus on sectors such as energy, defence, and tourism.”

In April, the venues stages the inaugural Piscine Middle East, co-located with Cityscape on 22-25 April. The swimming pool and spa trade show is expected to attract 60 international exhibitors and more than 2,000 visitors.

Earlier this year ADNEC introduced a younger demographic to the exhibition organising industry, hosting a delegation of 60 students from Singapore Polytechnic.
