Fira de Barcelona and MPI team up for Singapore gastronomy event

EUROPE – Spanish organiser and venue Fira de Barcelona and Asian organiser MP International (MPI) are working together on a new Spanish gastronomy and catering event for Singapore.

Delicioso Spain takes place in Singapore on 1-3 November, coinciding with the wine and liqueur show Asia Wine Expo and dedicated Japanese food and drinks showcase Oishii.

The initiative is hoped to allow Spanish companies to promote their products in countries where there is significant business potential for the food sector. It will attract food distributors and wholesalers, hotel and restaurant owners, gourmet shops and catering companies from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, China, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Fira de Barcelona and MP International have created a joint venture to oversee this event, and it is expected that other events focused on the Asian market will be produced in time.

President of Fira de Barcelona and food show Alimentaria, Josep Lluís Bonet, pictured, said: “The goal is for Spanish food, beverage and catering companies to use this trade fair platform to showcase their products and market them in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region and, in this way, compensate for the weak domestic demand, especially at these times of crisis.”

“Emerging countries in Asia-Pacific,” added Bonet, “already have a middle class with an important purchasing potential that has started to acquire new food habits and sees the Mediterranean diet as a healthy and balanced way of enjoying meals. In this context, Spanish products have a big opportunity to be marketed around the world”.

The launch of Delicioso Spain is part of Fira de Barcelona’s strategy to boost international business by holding its own shows in other countries, mainly Asia and Latin America, channelling Fira de Barcelona's exhibitors in foreign events and selling services, management and advice to other organisers.
