UBM hopes to tap Hong Kong success with new Indian jewellery fair

ASIA - UBM plans to follow up the success of its Hong Kong jewellery fairs with the launch of its Delhi Jewellery and Gem Fair (DJGF) in September.

The event, which takes place at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on 8-9 September 2012, is sandwiched by existing shows in the south and west of India. DJGF is expected to serve the needs of the entire north and northeast markets.

The B2B show will be promoted through a major visitor advertising campaign in an effort to reach important markets including New Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and its adjoining second and third tier cities.

UBM’s principle event in Hong Kong, the September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, brought 3,450 exhibitors from 46 countries into contact with 51,500 trade professionals from 155 countries and regions, which UBM claimed will “surely be a strong foundation to help ensure that DJGF is successful from its very first edition.”

A spokesman for UBM described the jewellery market in Delhi as “extremely vibrant and receptive to modern ideas and innovations”.

“The culture of Delhi has a rich heritage as a cosmopolitan city,” they continued. “Considering all of the facts about the jewellery industry and the lifestyle in Delhi and its ever-demanding requirements through the wedding season, Delhi is an appropriate place to satisfy the thirst of this market for the jewellery trade industry.”

More than 400 participants and 25,000 buyers and sellers attended UBM’s three Indian shows last year, the Gems and Jewellery India International Exhibition, the Hyderabad Jewellery, Pearl & Gem Fair and the recently launched Mumbai Jewellery and Gem Fair.

UBM recently announced the launch of its Ecobuild exhibition in India.
