Messezentrum Salzburg sets visitor record

EUROPE - Austrian venue Messezentrum Salzburg set a new attendance record in 2011.

The venue drew 628,000 registered visitors in the year ending 31 December. The growth is significant when compared with past attendance figures. In 2005 the visitor count came to 399,000, representing a growth of more than 57 per cent in the past six years.

In 2011 a total of 32 fairs were held at Messezentrum, with another 60 events successfully staged at the adjacent Salzburgarena. The events saw a total of 5,600 exhibitors showcase their goods and services at the venue.

“This was a very encouraging result,” said Messezentrum CEO Henrik Häcker, “Despite the effects of the international financial crisis and the ongoing construction work for the new expo hall, this has delivered proof that we are clearly heading in the right direction.”

Messezentrum's management was directly responsible for seven of the shows staged at the venue last year.

Among the events being staged in Salzburg for the first time were the first International Music Fair and Best of Event Austria, a fair for live marketing and event services. A further 17 trade fairs were held by Messezentrum’s main customer, Reed Exhibitions Messe Salzburg, with eight shows staged by various external organisers.
