UFI holds Asia Open Seminar in China for first time

ASIA - The UFI Asia Open Seminar has opened in China for the first time, bringing together 230 industry experts discussing exhibitions in the world’s fastest growing and arguably most lucrative exhibition market.

Delegates from more than 20 countries and territories have travelled to southern China for the two-day seminar, which this year is themed ‘Asian Exhibitions in the Year of the Dragon’. The seminar is taking place at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Centre, hosted by the Shenzhen Trade, Economic and Information Commission.

“The continued growth of exhibitions in Asia has caught the attention of much of the exhibition industry worldwide," said Mark Cochrane, UFI Asia-Pacific regional manager. "Key players from around the world are looking to Asia for new opportunities and we tried to address that interest head-on at this year’s seminar.”

The exhibition industry in Asia has grown throughout the global financial crisis, but delegates and speakers in Shenzhen are keen to examine the issues and challenges facing the exhibitions industry in the region and ensure the progress remains uninhibited.

Speakers providing insight include Mike Jiang from Reed Huabo and Clare Wong from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, who will discuss how best to market businesses to Chinese visitors and exhibitors, an issue of vital strategic importance in the region.

UFI now has more than 175 members across the region. "Since its launch in Hong Kong in 2006 the UFI Open Seminar in Asia has gone from strength to strength," said UFI MD Paul Woodward.

"We are particularly pleased that in the Year of the Dragon, the seminar is being held in China, Asia’s largest exhibition market and the country with the largest number of UFI members anywhere in the world”.
