SIMM blames snow for attendance drop

EUROPE - The Madrid International Fashion Fair SIMM has attributed a nine percent annual drop in attendance to the freezing weather conditions that gripped the continent earlier this month.

In all 16,776 people visited the show, held from 2 to 4 February at Feria de Madrid. Although this was a decrease from February 2011, the show registered a 56 per cent attendance increase against its September edition.

“This decrease was undoubtedly the result of the weather conditions affecting Spain and Europe in general, which prevented a large number of Spanish and foreign professionals from travelling to the fair,” said organisers Feria de Madrid.

SIMM featured about 800 companies, with an expanded representation from French companies.

The show showcased women’s fashion and accessories for the Autumn/Winter 2012-2013 season in a 13,883sqm exhibition area.

The next event will be from 30 August to 1 September in Halls 12 and 14 at Feria de Madrid.
