Russian ExpoForum looks East for new exhibition programme

EUROPE – Two major Indian exhibitions at Russia’s Lenexpo fairgrounds are under discussion between the venue’s ExpoForum management and the Indian Consulate in St Petersburg.

The two national exhibitions of Indiangoods and handicrafts are planned at Lenexpo during 2012. Off the back of these, ExpoForum management said it plans to make the Asian market “one of the priority directions” in its marketing activities.

The St Petersburg company claimed several Asia-related events and projects are also in the pipeline, giving impetus for co-operation between companies and countries of Asia and Russia.

ExpoForum management will present its new $1bn convention and exhibition centre project at the Japanese Business Club in March, as well as plans for developing business at its existing Lenexpo fairgrounds. The company plans to increase indoor exhibition space to 60,000sqm by 2020.

ExpoForum is also in talks with the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. A meeting in Moscow with the deputy head of China’s committee for economic co-operation of society, Jing Bo, resulted in confirmation of Chinese participation at the St Petersburg International Gas Forum 2012.

Moscow was also the scene for an inauguralmeeting of the working group for convention and exhibition activities in the business council of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) on 31 January 2012. The SCO meeting was attended by representatives of the largest exhibition centres in Russia.

Vice-Chairman of the working group for the SCO business council, Igor Pozdnyakov, was recently elected head of the department of international promotion and sales at ExpoForum.

Last week, Mack Brooks announced plans to launch a new edition of its FastenerFair at the Lenexpo Exhibition Centre in St Petersburg in March 2013.
