IEIA elects new board members

ASIA – The Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA) has elected a new president and vice-president.

The association’s executive committee met in Mumbai on 20 December to swear in Sanjeev Khaira of UBM India as its president and S Balasubramanian of Bangalore International Exhibition Centre as vice-president.

"The association will move quickly to start addressing the key challenges facing the industry,” said Khaira on taking charge of the association. “A key objective during my tenure will be to push central government to recognise the important contribution the exhibition industry can make to the development of India as a major trading force in an increasing connected global economy.

“We need to look at other countries in Asia and beyond who are making the provision of world class exhibition venues and meeting facilities a crucial competitive advantage for themselves.“

The association also met at an extraordinary general meeting to elect a new executive committee to lead the organisation for the next two years. Elections included Anil Arora of Print-Packaging.com, who was elected as the honorary secretary and Ashwani Pande of Koelnmesse Ya Tradefair, who was elected as the honorary treasurer. Siddartha Sen of Siddartha Logistics and Ravinder Sethi of RE Rogers India were elected in the category of service providers.

According to the IEIA, the Indian exhibition industry grew by 20 per cent last year, with 500 trade fairs organised across the county.
