Dubai to host travel expos

MIDDLE EAST – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will host five regional public transport exhibitions as part of a partnership agreement.

The deal comes as part of a link-up between the RTA and International Association for Public Transport (UITP), to set up a public transport hub in the emirate.

As a result five expos will be held over the next 10 years.

“I am proud to announce that Dubai has been chosen as the regional public transport hub because of our experience in hosting the world UITP congress,” said RTA executive director Mattar Al Tayer.

The agreement will also see the creation of a public transport excellence centre which will encourage best practices in the sector.

The centre, which will help regional governments set up mass transit projects in the respective countries, is scheduled to open itsdoors for students and experts in 2014.

Italian exhibition organiser Fiera Milano recently signed a preliminary agreement to enter the UAE's events market.
