Dubai Airshow taking off, according to post-show results

MIDDLE EAST – This year’s Dubai Airshow saw a resurgence in the aerospace industry, with final numbers up and an order book of US$63.3bn, more than four times greater than the previous event in 2009 (US$14bn).

This year’s event, which took place at Airport Expo, was attended by 56,548 (up seven per cent) trade visitors and 960 (up eight per cent) exhibitors from 50 countries.

It is the last time the Dubai Airshow takes place at the Airport Expo as it moves to Dubai World Central for the next show in 2013.

The event was opened by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE; and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. They were joined by King Juan Carlos of Spain.

Key aircraft on show included the Middle Eastern debut of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Bell/Boeing V-22 Osprey, as well as the international debut of Chinese MA-600 from Xian Aircraft Industries.

“The Dubai Airshow has grown in terms of advancement and number of major world exhibitors, visitors or deals,” said Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. “This reflects the significance of the Dubai Airshow as a major exemplary launchpad for manufacturers to showcase their various products to the countries in the region and meet the market requirements.”
