Industrial Fabrics Association postpones 2012 Asian expo

ASIA - Uncertainty over the completion of construction work at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Suntec Singapore) has prompted the Industrial Fabrics Association (IFAI) to postpone its 2012 Asia expo.

According to IFAI's conference management VP Todd Lindemann, the decision for the IFAI Expo Asia 2012 trade show, originally scheduled for 26-28 June, was also motivated by difficulties in the global economy.

"This decision will allow us to evaluate the date and venue for the event. We expect the second edition of IFAI Expo Asia to be bigger and draw a larger attendance, and we are carefully planning for that success."

Suntec, however, insisted that there is no foundation for the IFAI's concerns and that there would be no disruption on the dates concerned.

“We are conducting business as usual and are operational during the dates stated 26-28 June,” a Suntec spokeswoman told EW.

IFAI Expo Asia 2011 attracted more than 1,400 visitors from 39 countries.

In October, RA Trust Management (Suntec), a majority shareholder of Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre (Suntec Singapore), announced the SGD$180m (US$144m) modernisation programme for the venue.
