Melbourne CC calls in police to investigate theft

AUSTRALASIA - Victoria police officers are investigating alleged fraud committed by staff at the Melbourne Convention Centre (MCC) in Australia.

MCC owner Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust (MCET) confimed there had been allegations of impropriety against food and beverages employees at the centre. The ABC news agency reported allegations included staff purchasing additional goods for the convention centre and selling them on.

MCET chairman Bob Annells said an initial review had led to the resignation of one staff member, and the dismissal of a second.

"The MCET expects the highest level of professional conduct from its staff and complete compliance in allprocesses that the MCC and its clients rely upon to ensure a world class product is delivered at all times," Annells said.

"When the MCET becomes aware that their exacting standards have not been met then people will be held accountable," he added.

MCET has engaged an external auditor to investigate the circumstances of the alleged fraud and a revision of the MCC’s procedures is expected as a result.
