Exhibition return heralds Libyan reconstruction

AFRICA – Libyan organiser ATEX International Exhibitions has confirmed that international building and construction exhibition Libya Build will take place in 2012 after months of an unrest in the north African country.

Libya Build 2012 will be the eighth edition of the event, taking place at the Tripoli International Fairground from 20 to 24 May 2012.

The event, aimed at international organisations able to contribute to rebuilding the country, has approval from the National Transitional Council (NTC) and the Libyan General Board of Fairs, which is a full member of UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry.

“The time has come to build the new free Libya,” said a spokesman for the company. “We anticipate Libya Build 2012 will be a record in terms of number of participants, visitors and the business contracts with both the governmental and private sectors…due to the massive change in the political scene and the end of the dictatorship era in Libya which lasted more than four decades, as well as our determination to build a democratic, advanced and civil country.”

More than 2,000 international exhibitors participated in Libya Build in its last seven editions. The most recent edition, in 2010, welcomed 17,000 visitors, making it one of the most successful and significant events organised in Libya.

Official confirmed organisations include UBI France, the Italian Institute of Foreign Trade, Malta Enterprise and Royal Thai from Thailand.

ATEX will have some competition from Montgomery, which is launching an event titled ReBuild Libya 2012, expected to be held in the first quarter of next year.
