Qatar convention centre sets sights on knowledge-based events

MIDDLE EAST - The Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) is targeting the fields of biomedical, energy, computing, environmental, arts, social science, humanities and Islamic studies research for its event calendar next year.

The recent Qatar Foundation Annual Research Forum, which attracted 1,500 delegates and speakers including Nobel laureates, international policymakers, students, scientists, industry leaders and academic and research institutions, set in motion a campaign to win business from the knowledge sector. The decision takes advantage of the QNCC's strategic location within the Qatar Foundation's Education City, an enclave of eight international universities including the Qatar Science and Technology Park and soon-to-be-completed Sidra Medical and Research Centre.
QNCC general manager Adam Mather-Brown said the venue was specifically targeting exhibitions and conferences in these fields as Qatar attempts to move from a carbon-based economy to one based on knowledge.

"The Annual Research Forum is exactly the type of event that will help the country fulfill its ambitions," he said.  "One of the reasons for locating the QNCC in Education City was for it to become the focal point for a new global hub of ideas and innovation. We are proud to be a world-class venue conceived to bring together the world's best minds under one roof.”

QNCC houses 40,000sqm of exhibition space over nine halls, space that is adaptable to seat 10,000 for a conference or banquet, and features a 4,000-seat conference hall (theatre style) and 52 flexible meetings rooms.
