Dubai Airshow breaks sales and visitor records

MIDDLE EAST – Tarsus has reported US$63.3bn worth of orders for aircraft, maintenance services and flight training programmes were made during this year’s Dubai Airshow.

A major highlight on day one was Emirates Airlines’ order for 50 long-range Boeing 777-300 ER passenger jets worth US$18bn. According to the organiser, the 12th edition of the biennial show attracted a record 56,548 visitors across its five-day run at Dubai International Airport from 13 to 17 November, up from 52,978 in 2009. The $63.3bn order result was up from $14bn in 2009.

The exhibition took place two weeks before the UAE’s 40th national anniversary and included an aerial display from the country’s new aerobatics display team Al Eursan. Tarsus launched the companion Gulf Aviation Training Event alongside the Dubai Airshow this year to provide fresh conference content for the aviation industry.

This is the last time the show will run at Dubai International Airport. As previously reported in EW, Tarsus will relocate the Dubai Airshow to the new Dubai World Central exhibition facilities at Al-Maktoum International Airport for its 2013 edition. The show is run by Tarsus’s F&E Aerospace subsidiary.

“We promised a Dubai Airshow that would be bigger and better than ever and we did not disappoint,” said MD of airshow organiser F&E Aerospace Alison Weller. “The past week has been notable for its buoyant crowds, spectacular aerial displays and astonishing order announcements. As the show comes to an end, it will be time to take stock of the successes and the challenges, in preparation for Dubai Airshow 2013 at Dubai World Central.”

The Dubai Airshow is organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, in co-operation with Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Airports and the UAE Armed Forces.
