Vinexpo branches into New York with consumer show

AMERICAS - The organiser of wine and spirits exhibition Vinexpo is launching its first consumer show in New York.

The new Rendez-Vous by Vinexpo will be based around a three-day tastings format for consumers and run from 17 to 18 November 2012. The event is being organised under a new joint venture between Vinexpo SAS, Wine Spectator publisher M. Shanken Communications and the organiser of Chocolate Show New York.

In a statement, Vinexpo said the new event will enable its clientele of international wine and spirits businesses to directly content consumers while also giving North American importers and wholesalers the chance to take part alongside their suppliers. The organiser expects to attract 150 exhibitors and more than 6,000 visitors to New York’s Javits Center.

“The collaboration among the three partners is a fantastic opportunity for our exhibitors,” Vinexpo chief executive Robert Beynat said. “By combining our respective areas of expertise, Rendez-Vous by Vinexpo will become the benchmark annual event in New York for consumers and all the players in the wine and spirits industry.”

According to the organiser, the US is forecast to drink 3.8m bottles of wine in 2012, putting it ahead of Italy and France. New York was chosen as the first launch point into the US because of its mix of culture and business opportunity.

Chocolate Show New York will take place in the lead-up to Rendez-Vous by Vinexpo at the Metropolitan Pavilion from 10 to 13 November 2011.

“We have a mythical city with high consumption power, promotion aimed at carefully targeted visitors, a selective choice of exhibitors and master classes with renowned celebrities,” Chocolate Show New York commissioner general Sylvie Douce said. “All the ingredients are there to ensure success for this grand cocktail for consumers.”

Vinexpo also runs Vinexpo Asia-Pacific, which reported its highest-ever attendance of12,000 visitors in June 2010. The next Asian event will be held in May 2012.
