Indonesia trade expo deals exceed expectations

ASIA - The Indonesian government has revealed a 26 per cent rise in trade deals from its five-day trade expo that ended on Sunday 23 October in Jakarta.

Total agreements rose to US$464.5m this year from $369.3m in 2010, said trade ministry official Bayu Krishnamurthi. The government had set a $380m target for the 26th annual event, which was attendance by more than 8,300 buyers from 92 countries.

“Trade deals exceeded the target, with furniture products leading the transactions,” said Krishnamurthi.

Furniture accounted for 40.8 per cent of the total trade agreements, he added. Other goods dominating Trade Expo Indonesia included agricultural products, which accounted for 10.3 per cent, handicrafts (9.4 per cent) and jewellery (7.8 per cent).

Krishnamurthi estimated 14,900 workers were requested by a total of 19 countries at the event.

“The biggest request was from Australia for medical and paramedic work,” he said.

Earlier this year, Messe Düsseldorf Asia announced a link-up with local partner PT Wahana Kemalaniaga to organise three Indonesian exhibitions in 2012.
