UBM takes pharmaceutical expo to Indonesia

ASIA - UBM will launch a new edition of its CPhI pharmaceutical ingredients show for the South East Asian region in Indonesia next year.

The new event will run from 10 to 12 May 2012 at the Jakarta International Expo and aims to be a one-stop shop for meeting new customers and partners across ASEAN. According to UBM, the Indonesian pharmaceutical market was valued at US$3.9bn in 2010, a 10 per cent year-on-year increase.

Indonesia has 200 pharmaceutical manufacturers, one-fifth with foreign investment. The country also has a big generics sector currently dominated by four large players. New legislative reforms allowing full foreign ownership of drug companies are expected to drastically change the ASEAN market’s relationship with the global industry.

UBM’s CPhI events portfolio stretches across Japan, India, China, South America and Spain.

“Indonesia is the ideal location for the introduction of a new CPhI event. The South East Asia region is an exceptional example of a ‘pharmerging’ market and we feel it is key to establish a presence here at this time,” UBM Pharma portfolio director Greg Kerwin said. “The new event offers visitors with a unique opportunity to access an area that is aligning itself for explosive growth.

“The pharmaceutical market is growing across the region and the increased demand for pharma raw materials offers great potential for international suppliers to expand their footprint in the ASEAN companies.”
