HK jewellery fair attendance up 16.3%

ASIA - The September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair organised by UBM Asia held at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) on 19-23 September and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on 21-25 September has seen visitor attendance rise by 16.3 per cent.

More than 3,450 exhibitors from 46 countries and regions met with a total of 51,500 trade professionals from 155 countries and regions; the biggest exhibitor and visitor figures in the history of the event.

In all, there were 16,931 Hong Kong-based visitors, accounting for about a third of the total.

More than 34,500, about 67 per cent of the overall total, came from overseas, up 21.4 per cent from last year. Buyers from China formed the biggest group of visitors from outside Hong Kong with 11,483, a 45 per cent increase on last year’s edition. This was followed by India with 3,519 visitors and the US with 2,423, up 29 per cent.

More than 114,000 visits were recorded each day during the fair at the two venues.

The event used its tenure at AWE to display raw materials, packaging, tools and equipment sectors, while the HKCEC accommodated the fine jewellery section.

Wolfram Diener has been brought on as senior VP at UBM Asia in August with responsibility for the company’s jewellery portfolio, including the September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair.
