Helsinki completes EUR30m new hall

EUROPE - The Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre in Finland has completed work on a new 15,000sqm hall at a cost of EUR30m (US$41.3m).

The new Hall 7 features one wall made almost entirely of glass, a 1,100sqm window that allows in natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting. The venue’s high design and absence of obstructive pillars is hoped to give the hall a feeling of space.

The new area is also designed to host events, including international competitions in various ball games and indoor athletics events, accommodating up to 7,000 people.

There is no fixed partitioning wall between Halls 6 and 7, which means they can be combined into a single space for as many as 20,000 people and a total floor area of 33,000sqm.

Helsinki’s new hall is the first major expansion to be completed under the leadership of former Finnair Group’s senior VP of public affairs and corporate communications Christer Haglund, who replaced Pentti Kivinen as MD following his retirement earlier this year.
