Gitex plans both events for Dubai venue

MIDDLE EAST - Gitex Shopper, the largest technology exhibition for consumers in the Middle East, has announced it is moving to the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) next year.

Senior vice-president exhibitions and events management at Dubai World Trade Centre Trixee Loh confirmed negotiations are under way to house both Gitex Shopper and Technology Week under one roof.

"Plans are underway to relocate Gitex Shopper from Airport Expo Dubai to DICEC next year," Loh said.

Both events next year will again be staggered on different dates to accommodate attendees.

Official attendance numbers have not been released for both of the 2011 Gitex events, but organisers were expecting combined attendance to be more than 300,000 visitors. Gitex Shopper was held from 8 to 15 October and Technology Week from 14 to 18 October.

Gitex Technology Week, one of the world's top three information technology events, celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2010 in Dubai. It attracted 136,114 ICT professionals and 3,500 regional and global exhibitors.
