Messe Nuremberg parts ways with Planeta Organico in Brazil

BRAZIL - The partnership has ended between Germany’s Messe Nuremberg and local outfit Planeta Organico, organisers of Brazilian organic and natural product exhibitions BioFach America Latina and ExpoSustentat.

A spokesman for Messe Nuremberg said the split clears the way for both companies to concentrate on core business activities.

In 2009 Messe Nuremberg acquired Brazilian exhibition organiser Nielsen Business Media Brasil, which became the Brazilian subsidiary of Messe Nuremberg; Messe Nuremberg Brasil. Today this organises seven events in São Paulo in the pharmaceutical, cosmetics, analysis, glass technology, kitchen and bathroom, and pet and veterinary sectors.

The Brazilian subsidiary of Messe Nuremberg now takes over the continuation of the BioFach América Latina and ExpoSustentat exhibitions, as well as a building exhibition licensed to Argentina. The company had a turnover of just under nine million euros in 2010 and employs a permanent staff of 28.

“We are looking forward to the new task and will develop a new concept for BioFach América Latina with enthusiasm and energy,” said Messe Nuremberg Brazil MD Ligia Amorim.

Having organised and promoted BioFach América Latina and ExpoSustentat in Brazil in partnership with Messe Nuremberg since 2003, Planeta Orgânico will now seek to cultivate the ‘green seeds’ it claims to have been sowing in domestic and international markets.

“Our mission will be to become as ‘green’ as possible and embrace the opportunities offered by the mega events taking place in Brazil in the coming years, a commitment that will certainly demand great dedication,” said Planeta Orgânico’s executive director Maria Beatriz Martins Costa.

Brazil is the largest economy in Latin America and with its 190 million inhabitants is a consumer market with great potential – also for sustainable and organic products.

The US subsidiary of Messe Nuremburg is launching a pet expo in Guadalajara, Mexico, in summer next year.
