Los Angeles gets big IDEA

USA – The San Diego-based IDEA Health and Fitness Association is returning to Los Angeles with its IDEA World Fitness Convention on 11 to 14 August.

The convention, to be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center and aimed at fitness professionals from around the world, is expected to take more than 4,000 room nights and bring US$3.6m to the city.

The annual convention was conceived to provide a networking platform for fitness experts and the public, while they experience cutting-edge fitness equipment. More than 400 stands and 180 exhibitors will be present alongside fitness experts and speakers including the short track speed skater and eight-time Olympic medalist Apolo Ohno.

“The IDEA World Fitness Convention and our city complement one another,” said president and CEO of LA Inc Mark Liberman. “LA is blessed with an enviable climate that allows us to bring our workouts outdoors, along the beach, to the foothills and on our city streets.”

This is the second consecutive year that the World Fitness Convention has been held in LA. IDEA has also confirmed that the event will return in 2013 and 2015.

A citizen's group has hit back at claims the expansion planned for the Los Angeles Convention Centre will bring major lasting benefits to the city.
