China International trade fair rakes in contracts

CHINA - The 22nd edition of the China Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair finished last Sunday in the capital city of northeast Heilongjiang Province with the alleged signing of almost US$18bn of overseas-related contracts.

The international trade show ran from 15 to 19 June at the Harbin International Conference Exhibition and Sports Center, occupying 76,000sqm.

According to a statement released by the organiser, domestic trade and economic cooperation contracts were valued at almost US$34bn. Foreign trade contracts were valued at almost US$10bn, including $2bn in contracts for garment industry exports and $1bn in oil import contracts.

Russia, which borders the Chinese Heilongjiang Province, was the most active attendee at the fair, with Russian companies and merchants taking 138 of the show’s 3,000 exhibition stands.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached $55bn in 2010, making China Russia’s largest trade partner.

Reed Exhibitions Greater China recently announced the co-location of its eco-friendly lighting event Green Lighting Shanghai with an electronics manufacturing event following a successful debut in Shanghai.
