Macau welcomes stimulus plan extension

MACAU – Exhibition organisers are celebrating news that the Strategic MICE Market Stimulation Programme is being extended until the end of the year.

The stimulus programme, extended for the second time, launched in May 2009 supports of 246 events including 47 exhibitions. These events were attended by 1.1m people and involved a financial support of MOP49.6m (US$6.2m).

Macau Convention and Exhibition Association president Eva Lou said that “According to our member’s comments, the programme has been effective. It will surely help the development of our business”. Lou has now decided to extend the programme, originally due to end this month in the hope that it will continue to attract international MICE events.

In the first quarter of 2011 there was a drop in the number of MICE events for the first time since the third quarter of 2009.

Twenty exhibitions are already enrolled in the programme for the remainder of the year.
