ADNEC aims to build new multi-purpose arena in Abu Dhabi

UAE - ADNEC has revealed plans, to be finalised, to build a new multi-purpose arena on its Abu Dhabi site.

The venue has commenced design work on the new facility, which will be able to seat 13,000 and is expected to open in 2014. ADNEC chief sales and marketing officer Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri said the new space will complement its exhibition and convention offerings, as well as a new 35,000sqm outdoor grandstand area, which was launched earlier this year to host live concerts and exhibitions.

“We’re actively getting feedback from organisers on our plans,” Al Dhaheri said. “We want to provide a best practice venue.”

Excel London MD David Pegler said the new arena was another example of ADNEC’s efforts to grow the global exhibition market. ADNEC also took the wrappers off the first phase of a new convention centre in the eastern Abu Dhabi city of Al Ain in May.

“This arena is a clear indication of investment into the industry,” Pegler said.
