New architecture fair scheduled for Swedish expo centre

SWEDEN – Northern Europe is getting a dedicated architecture trade fair in Gothenburg this Autumn.

The event takes place on 24-25 October at the expanding Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre (SECC).

According to the SECC, people in the building design industry in northern Europe need a platform to discuss architecture and city planning, but no such suitable event existed until now.

“Compare that with the construction industry, which in Sweden alone has three trade fairs”, said designer and exhibition founder Anders Breitholz. “There is a great deal of interest in an architecture fair from both the industry and the public, and we truly believe in Gothenburg as a host city. There is a lot happening in the city in terms of architectonics. Moreover, Gothenburg is strategically located, between Oslo and Copenhagen.”

Breitholz is currently working with both Mark Isitt of New Market Media and the SECC to plan the fair, which will include both a congress and a trade fair.

“This is a Nordic project, and the primary issue is actually ‘What types of communities do we want?’,” he added. “We hope the fair will promote better industry cooperation between supplier industries, developers, politicians and architects.”

The debut event will be trade only, but organisers hope in the future to increase the number of days and open the fair to the general public.
