UFI reinforces sustainability pledge

THAILAND – Global exhibition industry association UFI president Eric Everard has renewed the association’s commitment to sustainability at the UFI Focus Meeting on Sustainable Development in Bangkok this month.

Speaking at the event, hosted by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) in Bangkok on 23 February, Everard told delegates that the industry “must now join collective efforts using best industry practices to ensure that our exhibition business is a leading light for exhibitors and buyers to see that we are a wholly sustainable business”.

He also stressed the economic as well as human benefits of taking a sustainable approach to exhibitions, a view echoed by TCEB president Akapol Sorasuchart. “We believe that to increase revenue for the country, Thailand’s MICE industry needs credible tools to attract delegates from across the world, and we believe that Green Meetings are a crucial part of the answer. To this end, we have adopted the principles of Green Meetings as one of the MICE standards for almost three years,” said Sorasuchart.

The Focus Meeting was organised in compliance with guidelines established by the Green Meetings Thailand programme.
