Prime Minister heralds exhibitions as economic driving force for Bahrain

BAHRAIN – The Prime Minister of Bahrain said the country has realised the crucial importance of the exhibition industry as a ‘driving force for comprehensive development’.

Speaking at the opening of Gulf Industry Fair 2011 (GIF 2011) at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa said the recession has particularly highlighted the crucial role of the industrial sector in supporting the Kingdom’s economy.

"Exhibitions, such as GIF 2011, represent a viable platform to promote our industrial products", said Al Khalifa, stressing the Government's support to private sector enterprise, including the organisation and hosting of specialised exhibitions. He also added that exhibitions provide an efficient gateway promoting GCC (needs spelling out?) industrial co-operation.

The chairman of GIF 2011 organiser Hilal Conferences and Exhibitions, Anwar Abdulrahman, said Al Khalifa’s patronage was a catalyst to ensure the sector flourishes.

"Thanks to HRH the Premier's efforts to promote exhibitions, this industry has now become a cornerstone of national economic development," he commented.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has been in discussions with the Al Hilal Group to work together to bring exhibitions to the emirate.
