Miami Beach Convention Centre could receive $650m upgrade

USA – Tourism and government officials are finalising the details of plans for a US$650m expansion to the Miami Beach Convention Centre.

The expansion will increase exhibition space by about 90,000sqm, according to Miami Today.

The venue’s third floor, which is currently only used as support space, will also be expanded to hold over 5,000sqm of meeting rooms and 7,500sqm of ballrooms. A fourth floor would also be added with 5,000sqm of additional meeting space.

Although no plans are in place for an on-site hotel, developers have eyed two potential locations that could support a hotel if needed.

Sources of funding for the project have not been confirmed.

Last month, the Indiana Convention Centre jumped up 16 places on the list of American convention centres after completing its expansion project.
