German motor shows settle calendar collision to benefit auto industry

GERMANY -  The German motor shows Automechanika Frankfurt (AF) and the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show have settled their show date conflict.

Messe Frankfurt board member Detlef Braun said that decision was made first and foremost to ensure no harm is done to the German automotive industry.

“By taking this step, we relieve not only the pressure on the fair and exhibition calendar for September 2012, but also comply with a request of the automobile industry,” he said. “Our customers will be able to take part in AF and use the IAA show in Hanover to make presentations and expand their business relationships.”

AF, one of the world's leading exhibitions for the automotive industry, will now take place in Frankfurt on 11 to 16 September 2012, a week earlier than had originally been announced, to avoid conflict with the 64th IAA show.

The IAA, organised by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), is another key date in the world's auto mobility, transport and logistics marketplace. The 2012 event will be held in Hanover from 20 to 27 September.

An overlap between two such important events for the same sector would be of significant harm to both the industry and the German fair and exhibition business.

“Therefore, we considered it our duty as organisers of AF to take these necessary steps. Hence, we conducted open and constructive discussions with the VDA, and found a good solution for both sides”, added Braun.

VDA president Matthias Wissmann added that his member companies welcomed the solution. “This means that interested visitors will now be able to attend both events.”

A Spanish version of the Automechanika show, Motortec Automechanika Ibérica, is hoped to bring countries from North Africa and Latin America together on the Iberian Peninsula later this month.
