Nissan returns to North American International Auto Show

USA – Japanese automotive manufacturer Nissan has announced it is to exhibit at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) after a three-year absence.

The executive VP of Nissan, Carlos Tavares, announced the marque’s return to the event at the 23rd Annual Society of Automotive Analysts (SAA) Automotive Outlook Conference in Detroit. He said the move was to promote the manufacturer’s new product, Leaf, which Nissan claims will be a 100 per cent electric vehicle.

“We are launching new products and our business is growing,” Tavares told local media at the conference. “Nissan is a company on the move and has seen a 21 percent increase in sales."

Over the past two years autoshows across the globe have seen automotive brands reduce their exhibiting spend as production levels and sales saw a drastic decrease. The British International Motor Show was cancelled outright in October 2010. The announcement followed a thorough consultation with the UK motor industry, which cancelled the 2010 event in light of hardship brought about by the recession.

NAIAS is set to take place 10-23 January 2011 at the COBO Center, Detroit, Michigan.
