CCTB appoints Welsh as President and CEO

USA – The Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau (CCTB) has appointed Donald Welsh as its President and CEO.

Welsh hails from the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association, where he had been CEO. During his tenure in Indianapolis, he helped open more than US$3bn in new tourism-related developments including a new airport, stadium, doubling the size of the Indiana Convention Center, and opening the world’s largest JW Marriott.

“Our state leaders made sweeping reforms setting the stage for a new way of doing business in Chicago and Illinois,” says CCTB Chairman, Bruce Rauner. “First, we put a new board of business and civic leaders in place. Welsh is exactly what we need to take the Bureau to a whole new level and sharpen Chicago’s competitive edge.”

At the beginning of December, EW reported the CCTB’s previous CEO and President, Tim Roby, had resigned from the role to become the Senior VP of Sales for North America at Starwood Hotels and Resorts.
