Indonesian food and hospitality show increases floor space

INDONESIA - The organiser of the Food and Hotel Indonesia event is increasing exhibition floor space by 80 per cent for its upcoming 2011 event.

The 11th biennial exhibition takes place from 6 to 9 April at the Jakarta Exhibition Centre, Kemayoran and will cover 14,000sqm. According to the organiser Pamerindo Indonesia, over 600 companies from 39 countries have already signed up to participate. There were 18,610 visitors in 2009.

“We have been overwhelmed by the response this year, both from companies in Indonesia and internationally. This will definitely be the largest food and hotel exhibition Indonesia has ever seen,” said Pamerindo Indonesia senior project manager Wiwiek Roberto.

He pointed out the Indonesian tourism and hospitality sector continues to expand as a result of new bars, restaurants opening and expansive hotel development. According to the Indonesian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, 13 new hotels are scheduled to open in the next two years in Jakarta, and 40 nationally, as a result of the local government’s Visit Indonesia investment programme.

Alongside the exhibition, the Association of Culinary Professionals will stage the eighth Salon Culinaire, while Indonesian Barista Association will hold its fourth competition. Seminars and conferences are also running including the World Halal Forum Industry Dialogue.

Jakarta also played host to UBM’s first food ingredients show FiAsia in Indonesia from 29 September to 1 October after the organiser opted to relocate from Bangkok.
