Shanghai FHC show reports record attendance

CHINA - The Food and Hospitality Exhibition in China (FHC) has cited a 13 per cent increase in visitor attendance to 23,539 this year.

According to the organiser, 1,017 companies from 79 countries and regions participated in the show including 23 official national pavilions. The event ran from 10-12 November at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre and was delivered by China International Exhibition (CIE). It focuses on food, wine, beverages and hospitality suppliers.

Taiwan had the largest single pavilion in terms of companies, followed by Spain, Korea and Japan. Across product categories, coffee companies demonstrated the fastest growing exhibitor base, doubling stand space to 5,000sqm. Alongside exhibitors, the show held three coffee events including the Ultimate Barista Challenge, four cooking championships, three wine tutorials and a wine challenge, a pizza competition, ice cream university and olive oil tasting.

“All these specialist events were oversubscribed. This confirms the right visitors came to FHC for all these sectors, to attend these activities and to meet with the specialist product suppliers in the show,” CIE general manager Brendan Jennings said.

The 2011 FHC show will be held from 16-18 November. CIE said three new country pavilions were already confirmed, in addition to 22 groups present at this year’s event.

Shanghai was also host to the 2010 World Expo, attracting a record 73m visitors.
