Eco Expo Asia reports strong international attendance

HONG KONG - The industry body responsible for this year’s Eco Expo Asia in Hong Kong has proclaimed it an international success after recording strong overseas exhibitor and visitor attendance.

The 5th Eco Expo Asia ran 3-6 November 2010 at AsiaWorld-Expo and included 266 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions across 9,950sqm. Final footfall was 8,011 visitors from 62 countries and regions, including 2,775 from overseas. The top 10 by volume were the Chinese mainland, Canada, the US, Macau, Japan, Korea, Hungary, Thailand, Australia and the Philippines.

However, the total visitor result was 2,000 down from its 2009 event, where over 10,000 buyers attended.

The fair was opened by the Secretary for the Environment of the Government of the HKSAR, the Honourable Edward Yau, JP.

“A remarkable highlight of this year’s event is the sheer number of overseas exhibitors. Clearly this is a reflection of Hong Kong’s capacity as a trade platform for environmental and green enterprises,” he stated.

Eco Expo Asia is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK), and co-organised by the Environment Bureau of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Highlights this year included an extended Eco-Friendly Vehicle Zone as well as a larger Eco Asia Conference 2010 including new Eco-UK and Eco-US seminar, Nordic panel discussion and Sino-French Seminar focused on sustainable development.

The next edition will be held from 27 – 30 October 2011.

Internationally, HKTDC held its largest Indian exhibition, the Mumbai Lifestyle Expo, from 28-30 October 2010.
