Centaur reports strong events business

UK - Centaur Media has reported a strong start across its events business in the first four months of its new financial year.

According to its interim management statement, the media group’s events division saw revenue growth of 18 per cent year-on-year. It attributed the result to several product launches, including two new award evenings and several sponsored meeting events, as well as the newly established Employee Benefits Live held in September.

Strong growth in space sales and substantial on-site re-bookings also helped lift the interim result, Centaur stated.

The total group reported 15 per cent revenue growth between July 1 and 31 October 2010. Alongside the strong events showing, Centaur claimed 17 per cent advertising revenue growth, led by recruitment advertising in print and online, was another key factor.

Despite the good interim result, and forecasts for steady sales into 2011, the Centaur board said there was still a level of uncertainty about the overall market’s buoyancy.

“It remains a feature of the Group that forward visibility over many of our revenue streams is low at this stage in the financial year and this is currently compounded by uncertainty about the macro economic environment facing our customers in 2011,” Centaur stated.

The preliminary result lies in contrast to its full-year report to June 30, Centaur reported revenue losses. At the time, it blamed lower re-bookings across two of its major shows.
