Arctic oil and gas exhibition announced by Reed Exhibitions

RUSSIA - Reed Exhibitions and the Russian Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) have announced a new conference and exhibition for the oil and gas industry in Moscow in 2011.

The three-day SPE 2011 Arctic and Extreme Environments International event, 18-20 October at the All-Russia Exhibition Centre, will incorporate a mix of panel and industry expert presentations, plus an exhibition of products and services.

The conference will centre on the technical and environmental challenges facing exploration in the Arctic region and other extreme environments, offshore exploration and production (E&P) issues, and emerging technologies which can and should be adopted.

Event director, Vasyl Zhygalo, said the event built on the success of it and SPE’s biennial Russia Oil and Gas technical conference and exhibition series. Reed already maintains a collection of oil and gas events globally, but SPE 2011 represented the first large-scale event with a focus on the environmentally sensitive Arctic region.

“This will follow our established format of a highly-technical conference and exhibition, and is in response to growing demand for a technical E&P event focused on the Arctic and surrounding harsh environments,” Zhygalo said.

According to industry analysts, there are 90bn barrels of oil lying in Arctic territories and 30 per cent of the world’s undiscovered gas resources. Russia, Canada, Norway, the United States and Denmark are all focused on the eventual and further development of their Arctic territories, both on and offshore, SPE said.
