IRELAND - This year’s consumer gaming exhibition, Gamer Expo 2010, has been postponed due to fire safety concerns at its host venue. The three-day show was due to be held at the Citywest Convention Centre in Saggart, Co Dublin from 29 to 31 October.
The delay followed an issue raised by the senior executive fire prevention officer that the Citywest Convention Centre did not have the relevant fire certificate. Its existing certificate allowed the venue to host events for up to 4,200 people; however, the organiser was expecting 8,000 visitors a day and therefore the fire brigade would need to approve an extension.
No new date has been set for the event.
“We wish to confirm that all ticket purchases will be honoured [or refunded],” said the organiser, Gamer Expo. “It is our intention to re-schedule the event at a later date at Citywest Convention Centre, when the issues with the Fire Protection Officer are resolved, or alternatively at a different venue.”
An application for a new certificate has been submitted to Dublin Fire Brigade and is currently being assessed by the authorities.
According to national newspaper, Irish Independent, the centre is owned by businessman Jim Mansfield and was placed into receivership by the Irish division of the Bank of Scotland earlier this year.
