BECA appoints new leadership team

AUSTRALIA - The Business Events Council of Australia (BECA) has appointed a new leadership team.

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre CEO Leigh Harry (pictured) takes the position of chairman, replacing AEG Ogden’s Convention Director Geoff Donaghy.

Harry, president of the International Congress and Convention Association and the Joint Meetings Industry Council, is past president of Meetings and Events Australia and has served on the BECA Council for 10 years.

Adelaide Convention Bureau CEO Damien Kitto takes up the role of vice-chairman, and Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre CEO Ton von Amerongen retains the position of treasurer.

“Business events are critical elements in building international relations and helping to stimulate economic growth,” said Harry, “and I want to work to ensure the role of our industry is well understood and that the critical issues facing us are identified and addressed.”
