Ottawa exhibition hall plans approved

CANADA - Site plans for the new Ottawa tradeshow space have been approved by the city council’s planning and environment committee.

The approval comes in the face of protests from environmental groups alleging the site covers sensitive wetlands that should be protected.

Heather Hamilton, representative of the Ottawa forests and greenspace advisory committee, told councillors: “The area where the project is proposed is indeed a wetland, although it may not meet all the somewhat restrictive criteria applied by the Ministry of Natural Resources for designation as a wetland.”

The site plan will go before the full city council this week.

The US$39m, 20,250sqm project was proposed by developer Shenkman Corp.
