New zoning to help Adelaide exhibition development

AUSTRALIA – New zoning and planning policies will allow Adelaide Showground to be transformed into a modern exhibition and entertainment precinct, according to Minister of Urban Development and Planning, Paul Holloway.

Announcing the approval of a development plan amendment last week, Holloway said the master plan allows the 26-hectare site to adapt to more diverse and intensive uses and take advantage of its location and transport links.

“The rezoning, adopted after a public consultation process launched almost a year ago, broadens the scope of the uses for this ideal location,” said Holloway. “The Adelaide Showground will retain its important role as an entertainment and exhibition precinct, hosting the Royal Adelaide Show and other annual events.”

The development plan amendment will allow development of public transportation, increased car parking, and the construction of new mixed-use facilities.

Last summer, funding for a 3,500-seat expansion to the venue was cut back to instead help fund a footbridge project.
