CANADA - The government of the province of Nova Scotia will make public the proposal for a new Halifax conference and exhibition centre after a local politician revealed that the building would cost taxpayers CDN$160m (US$155m).
According to New Democrat backbencher Howard Epstein, the provincial and municipal governments would each be expected to pay $57m, with the federal government providing the other $46m.
Nova Scotia premier Darrell Dexter said the release is unconnected to Epstein’s revelation to the media.
The entire project, proposed by developer Rank Inc, also includes a hotel and office block and will cost an estimated $500m in total.
