Messe Frankfurt to expand pet event activities

GERMANY - Messe Frankfurt (MF) is to expand its portfolio of events with the addition of two new pet trade fairs in 2011.

Maintier 2011, a pet event for consumers, will launch in Germany in June.

“We and our partners have been witnessing growth in the number of animal lovers in the Rhine-Main region,” said Klaus Reinke, member of the extended board of management at MF.

In 2009, Germany was the world’s fifth-largest market for pet supplies, with total sales of €3.6bn (US$4.9bn), an increase of 2.2 per cent over the previous year.

MF will also launch a pet fair in the Asian market. The first Interpets exhibition will take place during August in Chiba near Tokyo. It is being organised by Mesago Messe Frankfurt, MF’s Japanese subsidiary.

“Unlike Maintier, Interpets has been conceived as a trade fair for a professional audience that will be open to the public on specific days,” said Reinke.
