Food exhibition moves to Indonesia

INDONESIA - Food ingredients exhibition FiAsia 2010, organised by UBM, is to take place in Indonesia for the first time.

Held in Bangkok for the past 15 years, organisers said the development of the Indonesian food industry is the reason for the move. The industry grew 41 per cent last year, translating into about 14.5m tonnes of ingredients being consumed in the country.

"Until now the show has always been held in Bangkok," said UBM MD, Michiel Kruse. "If 2010 goes well, our plan is to have the show alternate between Bangkok and Jakarta. But if Indonesia continues to have this kind of growth, it is possible we may just keep the show in the Indonesian capital.”

According to UBM, about 60 countries have registered for the show including India, Australia, China, the UK, France, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Thailand, the USA, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

FiAsia 2010 will take place at the Jakarta International Expo from 29 September to 1 October.
