Cape Town moves exhibition services online

SOUTH AFRICA - The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) has shifted its exhibition services online in a bid to make it easier for exhibitors to plan their presence at an event.

Chief operating officer, Joey Pather, said exhibitors could book a variety of services including plumbing, audiovisual, information technology and wireless access via the web 24 hours a day. The online facility is integrated with the CTICC’s booking system, which will also benefit professional conference organisers, he claimed.

“With this new service offering, exhibitors can be assured that their every need is catered to and that their bookings are secured as the system allows for immediate payment,” Pather said.

For CTICC, having a paper-less booking process also contributes to its reputation as an environmentally sustainable convention centre. CTICC joined the Global Green Alliance alongside eco-venues in Liverpool and Melbourne, Australia in 2009.

Pather claimed going online was a first for South African convention centres. The first international conference using the online services is African Com 2010, which features over 70 exhibitors.

CTICC has also introduced build up and breakdown packages with basic items required for hosting and exhibition at the centre. Pather said it would continue to look for new ways to innovate its services in order to achieve its vision of being the best long-haul international convention centre by 2020.
