New options for Chinese visa applicants

CHINA – Chinese exhibitors applying for American visas will be able to attend interviews in cities other than Beijing, where the American embassy is booked solid until September.

According to the International Association of Exhibitions and Events, new opportunities were introduced last week allowing interviewees to pursue appointments in cities where staff and resources are not as exhausted as the Chinese capital.

Guangzhou, Shenyang and Chengdu are less busy than Beijing, which has a 100-day waiting list, and Shanghai, which has a waiting list of 70 days. Waiting times are expected to drop as people consider other cities.

The new system may only remain in effect through the summer, but may provide relief to those seeking the visas they need to attend upcoming events overseas.
