Australia - The Sunshine Coast is to get an AU $100 million arts and exhibition centre within five years.
Sunshine Coast regional council’s general committee voted on 5 October to support the project, and will now form a reference group to proceed with the planning stage.
The facility will include a multi-purpose events hall, a 1,200-seat tiered theatre, a business lecture theatre and an art gallery.
Councillor Debbie Blumel described the project as the most significant social infrastructure project undertaken by council.
”Because we can't host business tourism events here and we understand that business tourism opportunities bring six times the level of investment of leisure tourism, it will add immeasurably to the arts industry and business opportunities here on the coast,” she says.
Council is expected to approve the project at a meeting on 8 October.
